persist (2), or vary seasonally (4), or disappear soon after infection (1).
Transmitted by a vector; a fungus;
Plasmodiophorales. Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted
by grafting (1/1); not transmitted by contact between plants (5/5); not
transmitted by seed; not transmitted by pollen (4/4).

Properties of particles in sap
44-51.25-65 °C. LIV: 1-4.333-14 days. DEP: log10 minus 1 (2), or 2-4 (4), or
5 (2). Infectivity of sap not changed by treatment with di-ethyl ether (1/1).
Leaf sap contains few virions.
Virions filamentous; not enveloped;
usually flexuous; with no clear modal length (2), or with clear modal lengths
(4); of 257-589.3-2000 nm; 12-13.83-16 nm wide. Axial canal obscure. Basic helix
One sedimenting component in purified
preparations (1/2), or two sedimenting components in purified preparations
(1/2). Density 1.28-1.299-1.32 g cm-3 in CsCl. A260/A280 ratio 1.14.
Virions contain 5 % nucleic acid;
95 % protein.
Genome consists of RNA (3/3); single-stranded (3/3); linear (3/3). Total
genome size 11.21-11.73-12 kb. Genome of two parts (3/3); largest (or only)
genome part 7.632-7.877-8 kb; the 2nd largest 3.585-3.861-4 kb. Base composition
22.1 % G; 27.4 % A; 24 % C; 26.5 % U. Infectivity retained when deproteinised
with phenol or detergent (1/1). Poly A region present (3/3). Additional factor
not required for infectivity (2/2).
Features of the genome
Non-genomic nucleic acid
not found in the virions (2/2).
Features of proteins
Replication does not depend on a helper virus
Virions found in cytoplasm. Inclusions
present in infected cells; are amorphous X-bodies (3), or membranous bodies
(4), or pinwheels; they do not contain virions.
Viral family : Potyviridae.
