COMPARATIVE ELECTROPHORETIC KARYOTYING OF DEBARYOMYCES HANSENII
COMPLEX AND RELATED SPECIES

ABSTRACT: The electrophoretic karyotypes of type and authentic strains of Debaryomyces hansenii complex and related species were determined by the CHEF(contour-cl- amped homogeneous electric field)system of pulsed field gel electrophoresis (P FGE).Chromosome numbers and size ranges of the four phenotypically similar taxa represented by the strains studuied were estimated as follows: D.hansenii var hansenii, 6-7,1.2-2.6(3.5)Mb; D.hansenii var.fabryi,7.0.7-2.4Mb; D.nepalensis, 6-8,(0.2)1.1-2.7Mb; Candida sailoana, 10-11,0..6-3.6Mb.The total genome size range of each of these taxa was claculated at about 10.6-14.9Mb,12.0-12.7Mb, 10.6-11.0Mb, and 18.1-18.9Mb,respectively.While C.sailoana can be differenti- ated from the Debaryomyces taxa by the data obtained,the three Debaryomyces taxa have similar chromosomal DNA banding patterns.
