Prof. Fanglan TAI (1893-1973) the founder of the Institute of Microbiology and well known phytopathologist and mycologist

As a famous mycologist and plant pathologist, Prof. Fanglan TAI(1893-1973) was one of the pionners of mycology and phytopathology in China. He was a deputy to the First, Second and Third national Peoples's Congress. He was elected an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Special Research Professor since 1956, and was the director of the Institute of Microbiology, from 1958 to 1973. From 1914 to 1919, Prof. Tai studied in USA in the fields of plant pathology and mycology. After coming back, he devoted his whole heart and life to the research work and education of mycology and plant pathology. He made great contributions to the founding and development of these branches of sciences in China. Under his guidance generations of mycologists and plant pathologists had been grown up. More than fifty scientific papers were published both in China and abroad. His comprehensive "SYLLOGE FUNGORUM SINICORUM" was published by Science Press in 1979. this book is very informative and useful to scientific workers devoting their studies of mycology and utilization of fungi resources.
